We love a good Top Five, so here’s one for the rugby league hard-cores. The inclusions on this list have caused a few big hits in the RLP offices, but after a make-up ‘band-aids and ointment’ session we reckon these bell ringers are the last word. Visit the RLP website to relive all the Kaboom!

5. Sam Burgess on Matthew Bell: Big Sammy Burgess left a trail broken bones in his debut NRL season but this on-field assassination of Panther Matthew Bell made the loudest crack! Made legendary by Sir Ray Warren’s killer line, “he hit him with everything – even his birth certificate!” Gold.

4. whamo!!!!: Even the grainy footage can’t hide one the all-time brutal hits as Warrior Awen Guttenbiel comes from about 20 metres offside to run through Rooster Ned Catic. Ouch!

3. Simon Dwyer on Jared Waerea-Hargreaves: Jared Waerea-Hargraves runs into a Simon Dwyer cement truck in last year’s epic 100-minute finals clash between the Roosters and Tigers. One of the hits of the decade!

2. Sonny Bill Williams on Joel Clinton: THE most titanic impact in rugby league history occurred between rookie Bulldog Sonny Bill Williams and Panther Joel Clinton in 2004. The slow-motion here is awe-inspiring.

1. Mark Glanville on Craig Field: Ever wonder what happened to ex-Rabbitoh and Sea Eagle pivot Craig Field? He’s still in traction after this 1998 smash-up by Knight Marc Glanville left him putty on the pitch. RLP can’t go past this barbaric beauty as our numero uno.

Inside our 2011 March Issue

THE FANS-TASTIC FOUR
These men never flew or flamed. They never stretched or faded. Their powers weren’t a gift or an accident.
Their superhuman abilities were forged through hours, days and years of hard and intensive effort.
And in 2010 they finally unleased to become the most exciting and popular players amongst the fans.
But can The Fans-Tastic Four of Benji, Hayne, Shillington and SKD, triumph in 2011?
Stay tuned as RLP goes one-on-one with rugby league’s most formidable and enigmatic heroes.

AFTER THE DELUGE
It wasn’t long ago that our drought-stricken nation was crying out for a drink.
A drop of rain to cleanse a country of sunburnt vistas and parched industry.
But in a land of harsh extremes, the relief of a shower soon turned to fear of the
approaching storm as the most savage floods in Australia’s history ravaged
three-quarters of the great northern state. With Queensland sinking beneath the deluge,
the NRL sent troops from the Eels, Tigers, Bulldogs and Panthers to help with the recovery
and RLP’s Lindsey Cuthbertson travelled with the players on a journey none of them will soon forget.

A MODERN CORROBOREE
Though the All Stars concept is still in its early stages of infancy, in two years it
has demonstrated a passion often reserved for the great Origin arena and has many
singing the praises of its founder Preston Campbell. But as RLP’s Lyle Beaton discovered,
the reach of the project spreads far beyond the touchlines at Skilled Park with communities
across the country joining this unique celebration of indigenous Australia.

CLUB IN FOCUS
RLP goes behind the scenes at the Tigers HQ for a chat with some of the big guns of the club;
CEO – Stephen Humphreys;
Media Manager – Wayne Cousins;
Coach – Tim Sheens; and
Captain – Robbie Farah.

AROUND THE GROUNDS
These are the weekend arenas that footy fans call home, from the supersized architectural
marvels to the local suburban grounds where the half time hills offer a cheap patch of turf to
kick back and watch the game. History is made and legends are born within that big white
rectangular field and as RLP’s Jason Dunne remembers, the fans just can’t get enough.
